ART ON FIRE:

kokomo opalescent glass

experience the art of glassmaking up close

This historic factory still produces world-renowned glass using many of the same techniques that have been in place for more than a century. During the guided tour, you’ll stand just feet away from the action and feel the heat as molten glass is hand-ladled from a 2,000-degree furnace, then hand-mixed and rolled into vibrant sheets of color. You’ll also have the chance to watch skilled glass artists at work, creating one-of-a-kind pieces right before your eyes.

It’s a unique opportunity to experience a piece of local craftsmanship that has made a global impact.

Things to know:

Public factory tours are offered Monday to Saturday at 11 a.m. You must call in advance to reserve a spot on the tour. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for students.
